The Good Woman Delusion

Why Perfection Never Protected Black Women, and How to Live Like Your Life Belongs to You

The book

We followed every rule. We were not safe.

Patriarchy promises women protection in exchange for compliance. Black women were handed the rules and denied the protection.

The Good Woman Delusion names the trap so many of us were raised inside: the belief that if we are perfect enough, selfless enough, and strong enough, we will finally be safe, loved, and rewarded. It is honest about the history, and honest about the part we still play. The harm was real. What we do next belongs to us.

Mallory Holmes

Mallory has spent her career inside the rooms where good women are expected to stay quiet, and she has rarely stayed quiet. She is a finance and analytics executive with an MBA, and a wellness and lifestyle creator for women over forty, known on TikTok as @authenti_cali.me.

She came fully into herself at 39, the year her son left for college. She lives in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with her husband, and she wears "delusional" like a badge of honor.
